Now we’ve long since been Planning a P. Party and here it is! The concept here is simple: everyone and everything on the Premises must being with “P” or risk being Punished and Persecuted!!!
Rules:
1. Everyone must come in a P costume. A few suggestions for this are Princesses, Pirates, Pickles, Prawns, Pillows, Pawns, Pigs, Pikachu and Poppy Pomfrey, etc, etc. The Possibilities are Plenty so effort is imPerative!
2. No simple adjectives as costumes. For instance, you may not simply come as “Pink” and think that an outfit Predominantly of said color is sufficient. That is cheating.
3. Should you choose to add as adjective to your costume title, both said adjective and noun MUST begin with P. For instance, Purple Puffins are allowed. Purple Cats are not.
4. Absolutely NO abstract concepts, including mathematical. So no Parabolas or Parables.
5. Every costume must also being phonetically with P. Absolutely no Phones or Psychologists!
6. This Party will be Potluck. So everyone must bring at least one item of food, beginning with P. Pringles, Pretzels, Popcorn and Persimmons are some suggestions. Pania will be Providing the Pizza.
7. Prizes!
8. Location: 3474 Arbutus. Just take the 16 bus to get there. Date: to be announced, but sometime in the week of Aug 27 to Sep 3. Facebook for more details.

not entirely sure what suzi meant by “your image in a real location”, but anyway here’s my honest attempt at putting my poster on a billboard via photoshop. here’s the logo in gif format, as requested. funny, photoshop doesn’t allow me to make it a gif, i had to use word paint. weird.

well, here’s my poster thus far, advocating the legalization of marijuana.
i started by creating the shapes for circles and text, then placing a photo of bob marley. i was actually inspired to do this subject matter by this very poster of him hanging in my roommate’s room. (for the record i am not a frequent user and neither is my roommate; in fact, i don’t think she’s ever tried it at all…she’s merely a connoisseur of jamaican culture).
next i’m going to work on rearranging the text in the “T” better….then on adding smoke shapes. suzi suggested the twirl effect tool, which would actually suit the organic style of the text quite well, but i also remembering seeing a nice tutorial on creating realistic smoke effects. maybe i’ll apply that.
also, i LOVE coldplay’s new single, viva la vida. the itunes ad in which it’s featured is a beautiful work of digital art. chris martin looks great, and the lyrics are about the french revolution from the perspective of the old king (pretty darn deep, eh?). their new album cover actually even features eugene delacroix’s Liberty Leading the People. so all in all, very relevant to our education. i’m even considering buying the album, altho, i probably need the $15 more than apple does.

well i’ve figured out the answer to life, or at least, this blog. i know exactly how much bleach my hair can take. EIGHT. bleachings.
cuz the other night as i was washing out another batch of jerome russell 40, handfuls of white hair fell out in my hands. like literally. there’s a sizeable patch on my head of hairs that had simply snapped off about 2 inches from the root. so it’s like a partial buzz cut. but at least now i know it can’t get any whiter. lol.

well, here are the other two of the series needed for class. as you can see they are my first poor clumsy efforts at turning a girl into a tree, before i decided to go for the new banyan tree approach as was handed in for class.

Hi everyone – I’ve begun my first few drafts for the project and so far it’s been a difficult but very educational process.
For tree references I used a lot of banyan tree photos since they have a great viney texture. To impose it onto the model, courtesy of some tasteful porn site, I used layers and tuned down the opacity. Even though I spent a long time trying to figure out how to use masks, it turned down I didn’t even need them. I also went to the Digital Output Centre for help with printing my proof – the lab tech being is indeed very knowledgeable. I will be going back, for sure.
After struggling with the texture I’m gonna have to work on lighting. Gah. So much work.

In other news, I fell off my bike yesterday. I was going down Broadway whilst trying to talk on my cellphone at the same time.
“Isn’t that kind of dangerous?” asked the person I was talking to.
“Yeah,” I said. “So if you hear a crash and it cuts off, that means I’ve fallen over.”
And BAM. Within 5 seconds, I was sprawled on the sidewalk, and my cellphone was strewn in pieces next to me. This is a photo of the raw skin peeled off my left hand:

After realizing what had happened, the first thing I did was sit up and burst into laughter. I didn’t really expect to fall off.

started on project. have chosen the theme of “mermaids and/or other fantastic anthropomorphic beings”. simple but classic. nothing’s easier than taking a photo of a beautiful woman and morphing it into something else, right?
first off, i didn’t want to fall back on the google approach right away. in fact, i wanted to be a super-keener, use a real model to take the photos myself. but on such short notice there was no way i could get a good model.
next i tried the library for inspiration. bad idea. what an obsolete institution. there may be tons of national geographic stories on “fish of the great barrier reef” or whatever, but good luck finding a decent-sized photo of an acceptable species of fish in the exact position you want, etc….besides if you haul a ton of books home then realize you haven’t got what you need you have to go back and risk possibly getting your bike run over while crossing burrard street, again.
so yeah, bottom line is, i went back home and googled “tasteful nude model”. now there’s a few sources of great quality, relatively hi-res photos for free. even still it takes a while of browsing before finding usable poses.

nevertheless, here’s one that i found of a girl with a tree. i’m gonna then get some photos of tree bark textures, to transform her into a nice forest nymph.

i’ve just spent about a hundred dollars re-re-re-bleaching my hair, and this is no laughing matter when you make $9/hr at starbucks (by the way i’m at the granville island one, please do visit). it has so much gunk in it that even after two shampoos this morning it still feels greasy. when wearing sunglasses people on the bus mistake me for the mother of small blond children. at work customers joke that it matches the green tea lemonade i’m serving.
but i’m determined to make it white. white like this page.
